'Empire' Star Bryshere Gray Arrested in Chicago

'Empire' Star Bryshere Gray

Bryshere Gray — or you may know him better as Empire's Hakeem Lyon — has been arrested. The actor/rapper was in some hot water last week for some driving-related offenses.

According to TMZ, Gray was in Chicago on Thursday (June 13) when he was pulled over for a registration issue — his tags didn't match the car he was driving (a 2014 Rolls-Royce). But, things got worse when the cops who pulled him over discovered that he was also driving without a driver's license or insurance.

TMZ also adds that Bryshere was eventually booked on a misdemeanor for his registration issue with the car, and then was released. He also was cited for driving without his license and insurance.

Gray's arrest is the latest headline to come out of the Empire cast. The show's Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) got into trouble last year when he was arrested and charged for lying to the police following what authorities say is a staged street attack. During the attack, the actor was accosted by two men who poured "an unknown chemical substance" on him and wrapped a rope around his neck. The case was later dropped by the prosecutor.

Empire is coming to a close as the show is now in its last season. The series' co-creator Lee Daniels recently admitted that the show's cancellation had to do with Smollet. He told Vulture, "Certainly, that played a major part."
