Amanda Bynesâ mother, Lynn, believes her daughter is incapable of making her own decisions about her well-being.
The Nickelodeon alumâs mother supposedly offered her opinions on the matter via a source. âAmandaâs mother doesnât have any issue with her daughter requesting a hearing regarding the conservatorship,â an insider told Us Weekly Sunday (February 23). âLynn feels Amanda isnât in any capacity to make any decisions about her care or treatment. Lynn will request that Amanda remain in a controlled environment.â
This came hours after the 33-year-old actress, who is currently engaged to marry fiance Paul Michael, took to Instagram to address her controversial conservatorship case, which requires Bynes to undergo expensive mental health treatments. (Bynes previously stated she'd been sober for "over a year" in a recent video on social media.)
"Today I want to talk about a controversial topic: My conservatorship case. I have been going to a treatment center that charges $5,200 a month," the Easy A star shared in an Instagram video. "There's no reason why I shouldn't go to a therapist who takes my insurance for $5,000 less a month. This is why I've asked to see the judge next week regarding this conservatorship issue.â
Lynn became her daughterâs temporary conservator after she was placed under a 72-hour mental health evaluation hold in 2013. This not only gives Lynn control over Amandaâs affairs and finances but also the final say on whether she can marry Michael â whom sheâs yet to meet.
Bynes announced her surprise engagement just a week ago, referring to Michael as her âlover.â According to a source, the couple has been dating for âa little more than two monthsâ after meeting each other at the same sober living facility.
